Sodium Fluoride and Potassium Oxalate for Glucose Preservation

Sodium fluoride (NaF) inhibits the glycolytic enzymes that break down glucose in whole blood after collection, preventing falsely low glucose results that can occur when specimens are not processed promptly. Potassium oxalate (KOx) acts as an anticoagulant by chelating calcium ions, preventing clot formation and allowing plasma to be separated for testing. Together, these additives provide a stable glucose specimen that supports accurate results even in high-volume or delayed processing workflows.

Gray Cap for Glucose Determination
